Inspirations for Springtime at Glitterysah...

I hope everyone has been having a fabulous festive period! I'm sure santa was good to all of you, and whoever you were with and whatever you were celebrating - I hope it was fun! I've certainly had a lovely time, and been eating waaay too much! :/ But I've also been doing a wee bit of work and playing around with designs for the new year...

I can't work out whether I'm way too early thinking about this, or if I'm way too late.. either way, for me it feels about the right time to start planning what will be on offer at Glitterysah in the new year. Once the current 20% sale ends on 31st January '10, it'll be out with the old and in with the new! :) While a few things will still be available, a lot will be taken out of stock - so you better hurry if something has caught your eye!

But what will be replacing all your old favourites??! Well, you'll have to wait and see! I've been drawing and playing about with fabrics and designs... its all very exciting :) I can promise you there will be loads of new prettyness in the next collection, but thought I would share with you some of my design inspirations, as a sort of sneak peak...

The Fair Ground

It doesn't give too much away, while at the same time it should hopefully excite you as much as these subjects excite me :) Theres nothing like bright lights, candy floss and teeny tiny cherry blossoms to perk you up and get rid of the winter blues! I can't wait to show you all the new stuff... I'll keep you posted xxx

How-to Sunday

Heehee, check me all looking embarassed and not wanting my photo taken!!

While I was looking a bit tired and stressed on the day, I've had loads of compliments on the pink display frames I used for my necklaces. So I thought I'd share how I made them - it was dead easy!

Materials:

Big sheets of strong cardboard (I used left over Ikea boxes)
Ruler/measuring tape
Pen or pencil
Stanley knife/craft knife/sharp scissors
Spray paint
Glue
Tinfoil
Drawing pins

So, firstly you need to work out how big you want your frames to be. I made each section of mine about 1ft or so wide. Multiply this by 3, then make sure your sheet of cardboard is at least that big. With a pencil, mark out the outline of your frames. I made mine all curly like an old fashioned picture frame, you can use whatever style you fancy.

Make two score lines down on either side of the centre section. This will ensure your frames fold into themselves and stand up. DON'T cut right through the cardboard. TAKE CARE WHEN USING A KNIFE!

Now cut out your outlines with your stanley knife/craft knife/scissors. TAKE CARE WHEN USING A KNIFE! Do this on a cutting board or some kind of protective surface.

You should end up with something like this! :) Awesomes! Now to paint it...

So I used pink spray paint I had left over from a previous project. USE SPRAY PAINT IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA WITH A FACE MASK! Oh, and protect the surface you're painting on! I just sprayed around the edges as I was running out of paint and knew I was going to cover the centres. You could also use any technique or add anything you want - paint splashes, stencils, collage, glitter etcetc. Once the paint was dry, I cut out tin foil rectangles just slightly smaller than each section of the frame and glued them on. I then stuck drawing pins in where I wanted to hang my necklaces. Adapt this in any way that suits you and your needs and you'll end up with something like this....

Yay! I hope all of this makes sense... ask any questions at all and if you make one of your own let me see how it turns out! I'd love to see what it looks like :)

Pressie Time!

Its the time of year when trees are getting decorated, cards exchanged and presents given... and I've got an extra special Glitterysah pressie for someone... !

Help me get at least 120 fans on my facebook page by 8pm GMT on the 16th Dec 09 and I'll draw someones name at random... and that lucky person will be sent a pressie from me! All wrapped up and in time for the 25th, full of goodies from my shop. Awesome, eh?

So get inviting and spreading the word! And if you're not already a fan, go fan me up now!! :D

Fun at the fair!

Yesterday I did my first ever craft fair, and what a fair it was! Magpie Market, at The Lot in Edinburgh, was a great success and hopefully the first of many more to come. I met loads of lovely crafty folks (many of whom I've been stalking online hehe) and even sold some of my prettyness (yay!) - all in all I had a great time. The market was busy all day, and Emily and the fab team of magpies should all be very proud of themselves for holding such a great event. I really hope they do another one, bagsy me a stall if they do!

The photos below are of my stall, let me know what you think of my display! I still need to perfect it but I was quite pleased with how it looked in the end. If you look closely you will see my stall neighbour, the amazing Lexi of Orangefishy Plush and her man; they were so funny and cute all day and her plushy goodies are awesome!

Challenge-tastic v2.0

Wow, a blog post two days in a row?? What on earth is wrong with me?!

Anyone who followed my old blog before I moved back to Blogspot may remember a little challenge I was participating in. The lovely Katy of Girl Industries originally posted this back in July, and by signing up to her challenge I agreed to do the same on my blog. I've been meaning to re-start this here on the new blog for ages and keep forgetting - so FINALLY I am doing so today...

Want me to make an extra special pressie just for you?? And for free??? Awesomes!

I am entering into a contract with the first 5* people who comment on this post and then commit to do the same on their blog.

1. I make no guarantee that you will like what I make - whatcha get is whatcha get
2. What I create will be just for you, with love.
3. It'll be done this year within a year (Nov 2010)
4. I will not give you any clue what it's going to be. It will be something made in the real world and not cyber
5. I reserve the right to do something strange or weird
6. In return, all you need to do is post this text on your blog and make 5 things for the first 5 to respond to your blog post.

So what are you waiting for?? Sign up! *There are only 4 spaces left as Katy originally signed up for this when it was on the old blog.* Quick quick, before theres no spaces left at all! x

#FollowFriday ... on a Saturday.....

So this is something I've been wanting to do for aaages and have finally got round to doing. On Twitter (for those of you who still have your Twitter-virginity...) theres a thing on a Friday called #FollowFriday (or #FF or variations on it) - basically you recommend awesome folks for everyone to follow. I've picked up lots of followers by some lovely people recommending me - and likewise I've found some really cool peeps to follow from others' recommendations. I haven't been taking part myself the past few weeks, so I'm going to make up for that now hopefully, by doing some #FollowFriday blog posts. My plan is to do this most weeks, and I've got some lovely folk for you to check out to start things off!

Firstly, Maria of The Scarlet Butterfly Company! She is a lovely girl who makes and sells some amazingly pink, flowery, girly things - like these earrings and compact mirrors:

Not only does she sell gorgeous, handmade girly items but also a great selection of accessories, cards and stationery by East of India and Juicy Lucy - and loads of other pretty things! There are links to all of her shops on her blog, go have a peek at the prettyness! Oh, and follow her on Twitter!

Another girl who makes some amazingly pretty things is Clare of Pretty Green! She makes the most wonderful upcycled knickers and bras - so gorgeous! I also won a giveaway on her blog recently and won this beautiful, handmade totebag!

You can see more of Clare's gorgeousness in her Etsy shop, follow her blog and follow her on Twitter!

Another lovely person you should check out is Andrea of CrowNology:

She has two blogs, 'Beauty and Old Things' and 'Echo of Me'. Both are inspirational blogs to follow, full of gorgeous photography and beautiful quotes. AND she'll soon have an Etsy shop! I can't wait to see it. Visit her blogs and follow Andrea on Twitter.

Are you like me? Love glittery, shiny things? You'll love Laura of Glue and Glitter then! She makes gorgeous resin jewellery and buttons - and jewellery tags! Here are the super cute tags she made for me and one of her awesome necklaces:

You can see more of Laura's gorgeous creations in her Folksy shop, follow her blog and of course follow her on Twitter.

And lastly for this week, Edwina Simone! Another maker of gorgeous, quirky jewellery and accessories. I especially love this cute wee ice cream necklace and fused glass earrings:

You can see more of her beautiful things on her site, follow her blog and you should definately follow her on Twitter!

Thats it for this week - if you're a crafty person I follow on Twitter and you're wondering why you're not here - never fear! I am going to try and remember to do this every week so maybe you'll be here soon!
